Fulston Manor School
Fulston Manor is the first school to get a solar PV system installed under the Solar4Schools program. It is a mixed comprehensive secondary school in Sittingbourne, Kent, with over 700 students.
With the help of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group, Fulston Manor now has a 4kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The school now has 26 modules on its flat roof, which are predicted to generate over 3300kWh of clean, carbon free, electricity every year and save over two tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere every year.
The school is very conscious of its ethics, and the teachers and kids alike are keen to be involved in environmentally responsible initiatives.
Headmaster, Clive Johnson says: "What a brilliant scheme. With the huge concern of climate change upon us, we can now begin make a difference and reduce our carbon emissions.”
He added: “From a recent whole school focus day on the environment, students recommended having environmentally friendly energy supplies. To be able to put this into practice so soon after the focus day is fantastic. As a school, we are committed to providing the best opportunities for our pupils and with our own solar power installation we can all learn about the importance and effectiveness of micro-renewable energy hands on."
The school has a meter in its main reception area for visitors and kids to see how much electricity the solar system is producing, and how much carbon is being saved from entering the atmosphere.
