As the 100th school in our joint venture with the Cooperative Group receives its solar panels, the retail group has challenged big business and the Government to help fit every school in the UK with a green energy source by 2020.

Switched on Schools, a initiative to fit electricity generating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to schools in Northern Ireland, has won the NEMEX Renewables Innovation Awards.

Cherry Orchard Primary School in Greenwich, South London, has become the 50th school to receive free solar panels with Solar4Schools. As part of their National Green Energy for Schools Campaign, the Co-op will be donating the second half of the funding required for the solar installation.

A school in Trafford, Manchester is about to become one of the country's most environmentally friendly when Solarcentury will install solar panels on its roof.

Braunton School in Devon is set to become one of the greenest schools in the country in January 2008, thanks to a £20,000 match funded grant from the Co-operative group for new solar panels.

Seaford Head Community College in East Sussex is set to become one of the greenest schools in the country when solar panels are installed by Solarcentury.

Schools from across the country have been selected for The Co-operative Group’s £1m Green Energy for Schools scheme. Each will each receive rooftop solar panels worth £20,000.
