Schools can apply for a 4kWp photovoltaic system (kWp means kilowatt peak, the maximum power rating of the system), or multiples thereof, to fit their roof size and budget.
A 4kWp installation of this clean, silent technology will generate approximately 3,300kWh per year (kWh means killowatt hour, which is the same as a 'unit' of electricity as quoted on an electricity bill) saving nearly two tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
Each 4kWp PV installation will cost approximately £20,000, before 50% grant funding, and is dependent on a successful site survey.
